Clio gets back on task!

O.k. O.k. already! I know that I have been slacking on the blogging quite a bit but now that my Veteran's Day responsibilities are over I can get back at it. First, thanks to all the student help for the assembly. I don't think that I have ever heard the student body so quiet and respectful. Please continue to remember our veterans and their sacrifices to keep us free.
Secondly, here are some interesting news links that I came across today. Enjoy!
"Sgt. Fido is Found" (http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1227206/Nato-Labrador-Sabi-safe-YEAR-lost-fierce-Afghanistan-battle.html) Pretty cool story about a NATO bomb sniffer that was lost in Afghanistan for over 14 months.
"Middle School Food Fight" (http://abcnews.go.com/WN/education-school-safety-tolerance-polices-lack-common-sense/story?id=9053934) Charter school in Chicago arrests a couple of dozen students for starting a food fight, HARSH!
"NY-23 Race Still Going" (http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2009/11/its_not_over_recanvassing_shows_ny23_race.html)
read the story and discover how crazy our electoral process can be. This one might be up to the courts with big time implications.

We remember 9/11

It is hard to believe that this is the eight year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. For those of you too young to remember I found this link http://www.frugalsites.net/911/sept11.html that provides a great memorial to those lost.

The first week is over!

Congratulations on making it through your first week of 2009-10. I hope that you can get some rest over the three day weekend (Labor Day is Monday). This year I am going to try and add links to important news stories and events on Fridays. Check out these stories.

China's [communist] flag to go up at the White House?- http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2009-07/13/content_8422505.htm Why do you think that many Americans will be upset by this?

U.S. Unemployment rises to 9.7% -http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=azXZugoul_S0 Ouch! What do you think that the Obama administration should do about this growing problem?

President Obama speaks to the nation's students-http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090904/D9AGF8L80.html and http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/26744.html Much ado about nothing or is the fear of dictatorship real?

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school! And welcome to Clio's Corner. Who was Clio? She was the Greek muse of history and her likeness (as seen above) sits in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. We will use this page for quite a number of things this year. I will provide online review for exams, homework hints, as well as links to significant things going on in the U.S. and around the world. Feel free to post comments or ask questions. Have a great first week back at school.

National day of Prayer 2009

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Reagan's conservatism over?

So says GWB's brother Jeb at this link (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/may/03/gop-listens-in-drive-to-thrive/). My thought? The values and needs of the nation that inspired the Reagan revolution are more importan now than ever. What do you think?

A new post? Wow!!!

Yes I do read the posts and I am sorry for not posting for the last couple of months. Hopefully I will get back to posting something new and interesting at least once a week. I have a few links for those who are looking for more on some of the topics we are covering. For sophomores, Here is the story of Kim Phuc (the little girl in the napalm picture) which is quite inspirational (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91964687). AP U.S. History, here is a couple of cool Civil War/Abraham Lincoln Interactive (Campaigns -http://www.teachingamericanhistory.org/neh/interactives/civilwar/lesson2/; Timeline of Lincoln Era -http://www.teachingamericanhistory.org/neh/interactives/lincoln/). WWII, I found this great site that has every Hitler conspiracy/myth/survival theory you ever wanted to read (http://greyfalcon.us/restored/Survival%20Myths.htm).
Have a great weekend!
